Fresh berries without all that pesky diggin' By Jodi Kerr from Salem Weekly Posted on Tue Jun 14, 2011

Food Alliance Certified

Unfortunately some of the vendors at the market are not honest about their growing methods. Some may post a sign or verbally tell customers they are "No Spray" in attempt to sell more product. Some of the customers assume they are getting a non-certified organic product. Customers don't realize there is no requirement for proof of the "No Spray" growing method. And there are many different interpretations of what "No Spray" means.

That is why Third party certification like Food Alliance, Oregon Tilth or USDA Organic is so important. We want our customers to be assured we grow a high quality product.

See “Consumer Food Labels Rankings & Reviewsfor more information.

            Growing Method:

·        Sustainable Farming Practices: Sustainable agriculture is one that produces abundant food without depleting the earth’s resources or polluting its environment.

·        Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is the coordinated use of pest and environmental information with available pest control methods to prevent unacceptable levels of pest damage by the most economical means and with the least possible hazard to people, property, and the environment.  IPM is fully implemented, with a wide range of natural pest control methods such as beneficial insects, careful weather monitoring and scouting. Least toxic products are used only when natural methods don’t work. Overall pest control minimizes negative impacts to human health and environment.

Food Safety:

Often customers don't wash their berries before they eat them.  Especially customers purchasing berries on their lunch or dinner break from work.

We require our employees to complete the Oregon Food Handling training and to wear food handling gloves when harvesting and packaging our fruit. Very few farms require their harvesting crews to do this. We feel it's a very important food safety practice; especially for berries.

Helping Others:  We donate fruit to Albany St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen and Corvallis Stone Soup Community Meal Program; Stone Soup is a free-meal-assistance program that serves meals to anyone in need.
